Cheryl breaks silence after Liam Payne ‘split’ speculation

She's waited years to launch her Cheryl's Trust Centre in Newcastle

| Updated:

Cheryl has brushed off rumours about her relationship with Liam Payne today to launch a new centre for disadvantaged youths in Newcastle.

The former X Factor judge was out and about on Tuesday chatting to the cameras at the opening of Cheryl’s Trust Centre.

Sporting a beaming smile, the Girls Aloud star appeared on BBC Breakfast with only one thing on her mind: to talk about her new project.

But, given her private life has dominated the headlines in recent days, it was only natural she was asked how that felt.

Dan Walker questioned: “Is a day like this frustrating for you when you’re trying to focus on what you’re doing there, when so much of your personal life is in the papers at the moment?”

Cheryl answered: “Is it frustrating? No it doesn’t bother me at all because my sole focus is on this.”

She added: “I’ve waited seven years to finally be here and none of that matters.

“This is the most important part to me.”

She made no further reference to the ongoing speculation about her romance, instead using her interview to explain what the centre is aiming to do for young people in Newcastle.

Taking over MTV UK’s Snapchat later on, she said: “I am just on my way to the opening of my centre in Newcastle. I’m so excited and I’m so happy to have you join me so stay tuned for more all day.

“The centre I’m about to open is aimed at helping thousands of disadvantaged youths and helps provide confidence building skills, get people back in the workplace, and helps people set up their own business.”

Cheryl’s new centre, in association with The Prince’s Trust, is located on Blandford Square in Newcastle.

It aims to provide support for unemployed young people in the North East, giving them opportunities for training and help finding jobs. The centre hopes to help more than 5,000 people in the next three years.

She said: “It seems like a lifetime since I started talking about opening a centre in Newcastle with The Prince’s Trust. I cannot believe the dream is finally real.

“Getting to this stage hasn’t been easy but we did it. I want to thank every single person and company that has helped me reach this milestone. Without all the support and help along the way I would never have been able to get here.

“My heart if so full of pride, love and hope.”

Cheryl, 34, later took to Instagram to tell fans: “My state of the art centre with the Princes trust is finally officially open, it has been years in the making and I am so excited to start helping change lives 🙏🏼 please feel free to call in if you feel like we could help.”

Well done, Chez!

Meanwhile, there’s been zero word from boyfriend Liam yet either on the speculation about their romance.

The couple have been together around two years and welcomed their son, Bear, in March last year.

Over the weekend, rumours emerged that they were going through a tough patch allegedly because they were struggling to spend time together.

Cheryl’s been based in the UK looking after Bear, working in the recording studio and, of course, finalising details for the Cheryl’s Trust Centre, while Liam has been jetting around the globe working on his solo tour.

But as neither Cheryl nor Liam – nor their reps – have commented, there’s no confirmation on whether any of this is true.

However, a source told Gossip Cop any speculation of an impending split is false and they are “very much together”.
