Liam Payne reportedly speaks to lawyers about possible Cheryl ‘split’ but couple still want to make it work

Their relationship has been dominating the headlines

Following unconfirmed reports that Cheryl and Liam Payne are struggling to spend quality time together, a newspaper has claimed the pair are working hard to fix their relationship – while also consulting lawyers.

The Sun alleges that Liam has sought legal advice over practical issues such as dividing their assets if they were to split.

Former One Direction star Liam, 24, is said to be worth £54 million, while Girls Aloud singer Cheryl, 34, is thought to be worth around £20 million.

They currently live together in a £5.4 million home in Surrey.

The Sun’s insider alleged: “Liam has sought some legal advice but he still wants to make it work. It’s just sensible to be prepared for all options.

“He hopes it doesn’t come to it but he’s just being careful.”

Meanwhile, The Mirror insists the couple, who have been together two years after meeting on the X Factor set ten years ago, are still determined to Fight For This Love.

Their insider claims: “Hopefully they can emerge intact as a couple. But there’s no denying it – things are pretty rough at the moment between them.

“Everyone hopes they can sort things out but, at the same time, it may be too large an obstacle.”

However, appearing on This Morning on Monday, former showbiz editor Gordon Smart cited sources he’d spoken to who said the couple are going through a rocky patch, but not a split.

The ‘split’ rumours began when Mail Online reported that the couple were struggling to spend time together.

The famous pair, who were last seen in public together back in October, have both been busy in recent months.

Liam has been travelling the world with singer Rita Ora, promoting their new single ‘For You’, which features in the new Fifty Shades Darker film.

Cheryl has also been working on new music in London, while also helping charity events.

This week the Geordie star is due in Newcastle at Tuesday’s opening of the Cheryl’s Trust Centre for young people.

Liam is expected to be at the Brit Awards on Wednesday, where he is nominated for a gong. Organisers are reportedly currently not expecting Cheryl to be with him, but this could change.

On Saturday Liam was pictured at the Groves v Eubank fight with sports star Denise Lewis, and on Monday morning, he co-hosted the Capital FM Breakfast Show and appeared in high spirits.

The news comes after Liam paid a sweet tribute to Cheryl as recently as Valentine’s Day.

He posted a shot of baby Bear wearing a T-shirt that read: “Bear is Mummy’s little Valentine”.

He added the caption: “Happy Valentine’s Day @cherylofficial and everyone. Looks like I’ve got the big guy to compete with now.”
