EastEnders’ Lauren Branning struggles in her relationship with Steven Beale

Whitney knows her mate is up to something

Things have been a bit stale between EastEnders’ Lauren Branning and Steven Beale for a while now.

His dedication to the Beales and determination to work every hour god sends and be the perfect son to Ian, means Lauren’s feeling neglected.

She tried to seduce him with lunch and edible underwear the other week, but it fell flat when news of Ian’s possible illness reached them and Steven ran off again.

Lauren confides in Whitney about the strain her relationship is under, but knowing all-too-well what it takes to make things work, Whit advises her mate to try harder.

But when Lauren gets home later and is having a chat with Jane about love and relationships, Lauren realises she’s left her phone in The Vic, she panics and rushes back to get it before anyone can look at it.

What’s on Lauren’s phone that she’s hiding? Messages from another man? Or could it be Steven’s brother, Peter, wanting her back?

Whitney wants to know why she’s being so secretive about her phone as well, and again encourages Lauren to fight for her relationship.

But when Lauren suggests the girls head out for a night Up West together and Whit agrees thinking it’s just what they both need, there’s a shock in store.

It turns out Lauren doesn’t just want to spend time with her best friend – she has a whole other motive for the evening.

When it dawns on Whitney the reason they’ve gone to that particular bar, she’s stunned – and lays into Lauren for her behaviour.

Has Lauren dragged her there so she can meet guys? Or is she meeting one man in particular?

Could she have set up a secret date with another fella and brought Whitney along as cover?

As Whitney shares some home truths with Lauren, will it make the bored Branning look at life and make the changes she needs to ensure her relationship with Steven works?

And just why isn’t he so interested in her any more? Could it be that he wanted the picture-perfect girl and family, but without having to work for it? Is he still harbouring feelings for men?

It’s not looking good for Lauren and Steven, but can they find a way to make it work – before it’s too late?
