A source told MailOnline: “It’s simply not true to say the show’s future is hanging in the balance.

“It is definitely going to be returning, however, ratings have dropped, so bosses want to make sure it’s given a bit of a revamp.”

ITV enjoys a very close working relationship with Syco and Thames and are currently negotiating a new deal for 2020 and beyond.

ITV also told the publication: “ITV enjoys a very close working relationship with Syco and Thames and are currently negotiating a new deal for 2020 and beyond.

“This will be announced in due course.”

X Factor: The Band will go head-to-head with The Search,  Little Mix’s own talent search show and Simon has claimed that when he turned down the offer to work with them, they brought their series forward so it clashed with The Band.

Simon told The Sun newspaper: “This is what really happened. I was approached to co-produce that show last year by Little Mix’s management.

“I told them the problem was we have a conflict of interest because we are launching X Factor The Band in 2020. We were told their show was going to launch in 2021.

“Then we had the fallout and find out Little Mix were bringing their show forward. Was that intentional because we are doing our show? I have no idea.”

Earlier this year, the ratings for one week’s X Factor: Celebrity were one million down on the record-low launch show.

That in itself was a loss of nearly one million on last year’s opener for the regular version of The X Factor, which pulled in 5.7m viewers.
