Adele’s new album reflects on her divorce and personal growth

Adele and her ex have a son together

Adele has made her musical comeback with a new album partly inspired by her divorce – but why did she and her husband split?

The Rolling in The Deep singer married charity entrepreneur Simon Konecki in 2018.

Adele kept her private life private so very little was known about their relationship.

But then in 2019 it was announced that they were splitting.

A statement at the time said: “Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always, they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

Why did Adele and her husband split?

The singer hasn’t shared the ins and outs of what went wrong, but she did recently tell Rolling Stone that the end of the marriage came with the realisation that she was moving further away from being the person that she really wanted to be.

She explained: “I didn’t really know myself.

“I thought I did. I don’t know if it was because of my Saturn return or if it was because I was well and truly sort of heading into my thirties, but I just didn’t like who I was.”

Who is Adele dating now?

The chart-topper, who has a son, Angelo, with Simon, has now moved on and is in a new romance with sports agent Rich Paul.

The pair were linked earlier this year and in September Adele seemed to confirm their budding romance when she shared a picture on Instagram of them together.

She opened up about Rich during her One Night Only interview with Oprah Winfrey, saying he was “hilarious” and “very smart”.

She also told the chat show queen that it was the first time she’s loved herself in a relationship.

Oprah asked the singer: “This relationship is the first time you’ve actually…”

Adele, 33, chimed in “loved myself”.

“And been open to loving and being loved by someone else,” she added.

“It would be interesting to see what my reaction is like in general to anything that hurts me now that I feel so secure in myself, and I’m talking outside of romance as well,” she said.

An Audience With Adele airs on Saturday (November 27) at 5.25pm on ITV.
