This Morning: Viewers fume Spin to Win contestant was ‘robbed’ of chance to play

Fans thought he said the correct pass phrase

| Updated:

This Morning viewers have said a Spin to Win player was “robbed” of a chance to win.

As the segment kicked off on Tuesday’s show (September 8), Terrance called into the programme in a bid to win some cash or a holiday.

As the call was accepted, Terrance muttered some words which sounded like the keyphrase – The Belle of the ball.

What did the This Morning caller say?

After Terrance appeared to mutter “Belle of the bell”, hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were confused as to what he said.

Phil said: “That’s not it. It’s close but it’s not it. What do we do? Adjudicator!” as he put his finger on his ear piece.

After a brief pause, Phil said: “Oh my God, they [the show’s producers] said move on.”

He told Terrance: “Sorry bye!” as he put his hands over his mouth.

Holly admitted: “I can’t bear that. That was so close!”

Phil said: “Executive decision. Still saying no!”

That’s not it. It’s close but it’s not it. What do we do?

Holly insisted: “It’s not belle of the bell. Dial another!”

What did This Morning fans say?

Viewers weren’t happy with the show, with many saying Terrance’s accent made it seem like he said the wrong pass phrase.

One person said on Twitter: “That was accentist. Terrance was robbed.”

Another wrote: “Robbed for having an accent #ThisMorning.”

A third tweeted: “#ThisMorning you’ve just refused a prize to someone purely because he has an accent!

“Please get him back on for a chance to win!”

However, one added: “The first caller on ‘Spin to Win’ definitely said ‘Belle of the Belle’.

“I listened back twice and his accent didn’t sound overly strong. If his accent was that strong he should of said the phrase clearer.

Meanwhile, on Monday’s show, host Phil almost missed the programme after his alarm didn’t go off.

Holly told viewers at the start of the show: “You’re lucky you have two of us today as I was almost presenting the show on my own!”

Turning to Phil, she asked: “What happened to you today?”

Phil said: “On your phone, you set your alarm. Monday to Thursday. Last week, it went off perfectly.

“This morning, it just didn’t bother!”

Holly said: “That’s quite scary. So you had a last minute dash?”

Phil replied: “Yes! It’s when you wake up and you look at the time and your heart goes [does a exploding sound].”
