Holly and Phil broke the news to her

A woman broke down in tears as she was told she had won This Morning‘s £500,000 prize giveaway.

Ahead of Tuesday’s show, Caroline, from Dorset, was shocked when hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield told her she had bagged the cash from the competition.

A preview of the hosts breaking the news to Caroline over the phone played as Phil told her: “Caroline, you recognise our voices so you know we would never pull a stunt like this.

“Somebody always has to win, it’s always a real person that wins. Caroline, you are the real person.

“You have just won £500,000.”

An emotional Caroline exclaimed: “Oh my God,” as she broke down in tears.

Holly said: “Oh my Goodness me,” to which Caroline asked: “How much did you say it was? £5,000?”

The hosts clarified: “Five hundred thousand pounds. A half a million pounds.”

Caroline said: “Oh my God,” to which Holly said: “I know. It’s a life-changing amount.”

Caroline asked: “This isn’t a joke is it?”

Awww just melted love hearing people win.

Holly replied: “I promise you, I promise you. Five hundred thousand pounds and it’s all yours!”

A teary Caroline gushed: “Oh thank you so much.”

On today’s show, Holly reflected on Caroline’s reaction and said: “I mean that’s got to be one of the best bits of the job ever, hasn’t it?”

Phil said: “Yeah and she had had a really, really bad week. Her daughter wasn’t very well and they were trying to raise money to try and sort that so that was a nice way to start the morning for us.”

Viewers were left gushing over the segment, with one writing on Twitter: “Awww just melted love hearing people win, just fantastic, hopefully me one day.”

Another said: “Bought a tear to my eye!!”

A third added: “Lucky lady. Enjoy spending every penny. Not gonna lie, wished it was me. I’d spent a fortune on that competition.”
