The Tower is THE drama to watch on ITV1 this week – so how many episodes is it and what’s it about?

The series follows events after a long-serving cop and a teenage girl fall to their deaths from a London tower block.

The Tower on ITV1 – what’s it about?

The Tower follows the investigation into the deaths of a long-serving cop and a teenage Muslim girl.

Both fall to their deaths from a tower block in south-east London in disturbing circumstances.

Left alive on the roof are a five-year-old boy and rookie police officer Lizzie Adama – who disappears within hours.

DS Sarah Collins (Gemma Whelan) faces the seemingly impossible task of solving the crime.

She must track down Lizzie before she comes to serious harm and uncover the truth behind what happened.

Sarah and partner DC Steve Bradshaw (Jimmy Akingbola) have their work cut out in this compelling drama.

The Tower episodes – how many parts is it?

The Tower is a short series, with only three episodes!

Each episode is one hour long, including ad breaks.

There are currently no plans for more episodes of The Tower, although there are more books which can be adapted.

When’s the next episode of The Tower on ITV1?

The Tower starts on Monday November 8 2021 at 9pm on ITV1.

The second episode will air the next evening, on Tuesday November 9 2021 also at 9pm.

Viewers can watch the third and final episode on Wednesday November 10 2021 at 9pm.

All episodes will be available to watch on the ITV Hub immediately after.

The Tower cast

Game Of Thrones star Gemma Whelan, 40, takes the lead role of Sarah Collins in The Tower.

Award-winner Gemma has previously appeared in Gentleman Jack, White House Farm, Killing Eve and The Moorside.

Waterloo Road’s Tahirah Sharif plays rookie cop Lizzie Adama, while Hollyoaks’ Emmett J. Scanlan takes the role of uniformed police inspector DI Kieran Shaw.

Holby’s Jimmy Akingbola is DC Steve Bradshaw, while Peaky Blinders star Nick Holder plays PC Hadley Matthews.

Karl Davies – aka Robert Sugden in Emmerdale – portrays DCI Tim Bailie.

Meanwhile, another former soap star Nabil Elouahabi plays grief-stricken dad Younes Mehenni.

The Tower episodes: Is the series based on a novel?

Crime thriller The Tower is based on Kate London’s novel Post Mortem.

Author Kate is a former detective in the Metropolitan Police’s murder squad.

She resigned to write full time.

Her first novel, Post Mortem, was published in 2014 to strong reviews.

Kate’s second book in the trilogy, Death Message, was published in April 2017.

The third novel in the series, Gallowstree Lane, was published in 2019.

Meanwhile Patrick Harbinson has adapted the novel for TV.

He’s the man behind hit US series Homeland.

The Tower airs over three consecutive nights, starting on Monday November 8 2021 at 9pm on ITV1.
