The Tower episode 2: 6 burning questions we need an answer to before tomorrow’s finale

It's all bubbling up nicely...

Episode 2 of The Tower aired tonight (Tuesday November 9) and the plot thickened considerably.

ITV’s thrilling three-part whodunit seemed to narrow its focus on deceased officer PC Hadley Matthews.

But there was much more to the episode, so let’s dive straight in…

The Tower episode 2: What really happened to Cosmina?

In tonight’s episode we met the pimp, Laszlo Kovacs, who brutally assaulted one of his trafficked women, Cosmina Baicu.

She was desperate not to go to hospital, but PC Matthews once again took some unorthodox action.

He turned off his bodycam and told Cosmina that he would section her if she didn’t go.

And, inside the hospital, Lizzie promised to be there when Cosmina woke up.

However, when she stepped out and returned she found Matthews there, who told her that Cosmina had died. From a cerebral haemorrhage.

Could it be that Matthews might have finished her off? If so, why?

Is Matthews tied to anyone else?

For a dead man, PC Matthews certainly has a lot of secrets.

First off, he was accused of making racist remarks to Farah Mehinni.

Next, there was the incident with Cosmina.

And then both Matthews and his boss Kieran Shaw gently coerced Lizzie into altering her statement from the Mehinna house.

At every step of the way, Shaw has defended him.

So are these two part of something bigger… a more sinister conspiracy?

Why is Bailie so in with Shaw?

Another person who’s hampering Sarah’s investigation every step of the way is her boss, Bailie.

Once again he kept refusing to grant Sarah a warrant to first undertake surveillance on Shaw, and then a warrant to search his premises.

It took a mention of a potential scandal – involving race – for Bailie to finally sit up and take notice.

But why was Bailie afraid to act until now? Does Shaw have something on him, or is there a deeper relationship going on?

Why was Lizzie wearing her underwear in the shower?

We digress.

This question might seem facile in the grand scheme of things, but bear with us.

After Lizzie fell for Shaw’s seduction and engaged in a steamy affair with her boss, they tumbled into his flat and, eventually, into the shower.

Shaw, of course, was quite happy to get his kit off but Lizzie kept her’s on.

Not a question that’s vital to the case, but when was the last time you took a shower with your underwear on?

Is Lizzie now in danger from Shaw?

Back to it.

Lizzie called Shaw and he went to meet her in Eastbourne.

But, with the news that Farah had recorded her exchange with Matthews on her phone and arranged to meet Lizzie at the tower to sort out the matter, Shaw seems more culpable.

He took Farah’s phone from the crime scene, or at least Matthews did, and now he has it in his possession.

Lizzie knows exactly what happened that day, and now Shaw is with her after covering up so much.

Is he a threat to her?

So who killed Hadley Matthews and Farah Mehinni?

Lizzie looks in the clear for this, as she seemed genuinely traumatised at the crime scene and in shock.

She’s also been manipulated at every stage by Matthews and Shaw.

Shaw was already at the crime scene, and knowing what we know about him could he have killed both his PC and Farah to get off Scott-free?

The only other people in the frame are Farah’s father Younes, Laszlo Kovacs and the Younes’ next-door neighbour, Carrie Stoddard.

But these are long shots.

Who do you think did it, and why?

Episode three of The Tower is on tomorrow night (Wednesday November 10) at 9pm on ITV
