The Chase fans devastated after ‘brutal question’ costs contestant £43,000

GUTTED!

| Updated:

The Chase fans are notoriously unforgiving – one wrong move and you’ll find little sympathy amongst them.

And don’t get them started if a contestant takes the minus offer… Just pack your bags and don’t show your face in polite society ever again!

But, when you impress them, they get behind you every step of the way…

And that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday afternoon (August 6), when Shaun appeared on the show alongside Jack, Patricia and Chloe.

Fans of the award-winning quiz show were blown away by Shaun’s performance – and equally as disappointed when it all went horribly wrong for the 45-year-old retired army major.

Shaun won the audience over when he had an impressive cash builder round, racking up a practically unheard of £10,000.

Now a dental hygienist, Shaun was then offered a staggering £43,000 by chaser Anne Hegerty.

While most contestants play it safe, Shaun decided to go for it – and the viewers were right behind him!

However, after stumbling over a few questions, one remained between him and the big bucks.

Bradley asked him: “Who is the biggest selling female artist in the UK? Olivia Newton-John, Madonna or Whitney Houston.”

Devastatingly, Shaun chose Madonna, when in fact the answer was Olivia Newton-John! Who knew?!

And fans at home were gutted for him, with one tweeting: “That question was brutal! Harsh way to go #TheChase.”

Another added: “The team must be gutted to lose Shaun!”

A third said: “Wow, unlucky Shaun. I thought it was in the bag. #TheChase.”

Bad luck, Shaun. So close but so far,” commiserated another, while one more was moved to obscenities blasting: “Can’t believe it, absolutely devastated for Shaun! [Bleep] off Anne you [bleep].”

Calm down, dear, it’s only a quiz show.

While Shaun was the only member of the team not to make it through to the final round, The Governess made light work of the team with 20 seconds to spare. They lost their £17,000 and left with nothing.
