The Chase fans confused as they spot BGT winner Richard Jones on the show

He won the show in 2016

The Chase viewers were left baffled as they spotted Britain’s Got Talent winner Richard Jones on the show.

During Tuesday evening’s episode, magician Richard – who won the talent contest in 2016 – introduced himself as part of the team.

He told viewers: “I’m Richard, I’m 24 and I’m a magician.”

Before his cash builder round, Richard showed host Bradley Walsh a magic trick.

Richard got Bradley to sign his name on a playing card and place it between his hands so the magician couldn’t see it.

Richard then wrote his name on a different card.

He shook his hands before revealing that he had swapped his card with the card in Bradley’s hand, leaving the presenter shocked.

A shocked Bradley asked: “How did you do that?!” to which Richard said: “It’s magic Bradley.”

Richard went on to bag £3,000 in the cash builder round and faced chaser Jenny Ryan – AKA The Vixen.

Unfortunately for Richard, after going for the high offer of £50,000, he was caught by the chaser and went home with nothing.

Viewers were gutted for him and were quick to point out his BGT roots.

One person said on Twitter: “#TheChase Is Richard the magician, the same Richard who won Britain’s Got Talent?”

Another wrote: “Richard Jones that won BGT is on #TheChase,” while a third added: “Isn’t that #BGT winner Richard Jones on #TheChase?”

Others speculated whether the episode had been recorded before Richard won BGT.

One said: “He’s off #BGT Lance Corporal Richard Jones this is obviously pre 2016 when he won the £250,000 in the final #TheChase.”

Another wrote: “That Richard guy won BGT a few years ago was a magician? Surely this is an old episode #thechase.”
