The Chase contestant hits back after viewers accuse her of looking ‘shifty’ during appearance

Many fans noticed she was looking down at the floor a lot

A contestant on The Chase has hit back at viewers after they said she looked “shifty” when she appeared on the show.

Sammy appeared on the game show last week and turned down £70,000 while revealing that was how much she bought her house for – a confession that shocked many viewers.

But during her stint on the show, some viewers said on Twitter that they noticed she was looking down at the floor a lot.

One person wrote at the time: “Is there something interesting on the floor #TheChase,” while another said: “#TheChase oi!!!! look up!!!? What the [expletive] is on that floor?”

Responding to the comments, Sammy tweeted after the show: “Hi all, to everyone saying I’m staring at the floor and look shifty, I’m very sorry, I’m autistic and have trouble looking at people.

“I tried my best but I was really nervous #thechase #Autism.”

Sammy was inundated with messages of support.

One person replied: “As the mother of a daughter like you, I recognised it pretty quickly.

“I hate that you have to justify your actions on what should be a fun show but what would have been a massive personal challenge to you. Well done for giving it your best shot and I hope you had a fun day!”

Sammy wrote back: “Thanks. I did though it was a bit nerve wracking. I can sing in front of thousands of people but for some reason answering questions was more difficult haha.”

Another wrote: “You were amazing and incredibly brave to face the last round on your own. We had everything crossed for you to win!!!”

A third added: “You don’t have to justify it you did very well.”

During her appearance, Sammy stunned viewers after she revealed she bought her house for £70K as the average cost of an one bedroom flat in some parts of London can be up to £400,000.

Speaking about the £70K offer, Sammy told host Bradley Walsh: “That’s how much I bought my house for.”

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “£70k for her house, does she live in a [expletive] shed?”

Another said: “As if you can get a house for 70 grand in some places I hate London sometimes,” while a third added: “70k for a house!! Can’t even get a static caravan for that near me.”

Meanwhile, Sammy managed to make it through to the final round on her own as she played for £4,000.

However, after bagging 12 steps, Sammy was caught by the Chaser with 48 seconds remaining on the clock.
