Viewers were convinced Billy Connolly made a surprise guest appearance on Take Me Out’s Over 50s Special last night.
The famous Scottish comedian is happily married to Pamela Stephenson, but that didn’t stop fans speculating that he was on ITV’s dating show looking for love.
The contestant was actually long-haired Lawrence, who lives in Ibiza and had the audience seeing double when he emerged from the Love Lift.

One viewer tweeted: “Didn’t know Billy Connolly was making a guest appearance on #TakeMeOut.”
Another posted: “He’s like a sexy Billy Connolly,” while a third added: “I didn’t know Billy Connolly was single.”

Hotelier Lawrence told the 30 mature single ladies at the podiums that he often got mistaken for the comedian because of his long white locks.
One of them, Trish, turned her light off because she said she had “hair envy”, a sentiment echoed by host Paddy McGuinness.

Lawrence did, however, get himself a date to the Isle of Fernandos with former Top of the Pops dancer Maggie.

The real Billy Connolly received the Special Recognition accolade at the National Television Awards two years ago.
