It seems the extensive dance training and punishing rehearsal schedule has taken its toll on John’s body and he is paying the price.

On Sunday evening (28 November), John, 32, took to Instagram to share a snap of himself and Johannes along with his physiotherapist to thank her for helping his “knackered” hips.

He wrote: “This gal @jen_nash_ performed SO MUCH physio on me over the weekend because all those lunges and lifting Jo has knackered my hips. THANK YOU, JEN.”

Jen quickly replied to his thanks, saying: “You are SO welcome @john_whaite. You smashed it. Good luck this week!”

John and Johannes tangoed their way to the top of the leaderboard during the latest round of the dance competition.

The dynamic duo wowed the judges with their near-perfect routine; the pair scored an incredible 39 out of 40.

Which couples are in the show’s quarter-final?

Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu, John and Johannes, Dan Walker and Nadiya Bychkova, Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice and AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington are all in the quarter-finals.

Following last night’s show, BBC Breakfast host Dan hit back at trolls who called him a ‘disgrace’ for making it through.

“And to the few who say ‘just leave’,  ‘Aren’t you ashamed?’, ‘You’re a disgrace’, ‘It’s a fix’ (which I don’t get), or ‘Who is voting for them?’… IT’S A TV SHOW!”

Dan cheekily signed off, adding a laughing emoji to his words: “See you in the quarter finals.”
