Strictly couple reveal harsh realities of competing on the show

Training for the live shows takes up every spare minute

Strictly Come Dancing’s Janette Manrara and Aljaz Skorjanec married over the summer and always look blissfully happy.

But the pro dancers have admitted life isn’t always easy when the BBC One show is on air.

Why? Because they rarely get to spend time together.

In a new interview with OK! magazine, the pair reflected on the difficulties of both competing on the programme, especially as they own a home in London but Aljaz spends his weeks in Manchester training with partner Gemma Atkinson.

Janette and her Strictly partner, Aston Merrygold, were eliminated in week seven.

Janette, 34, said: “We don’t get to see a lot of each other as Aljaz is in Manchester until Thursday evening. Then we are in the studio on Friday and Saturday, so we are exhausted on Sunday.

“We really miss each other. We’re newlyweds so we want to be together all the time.

“We need time to be together as a couple – we love just sitting on our sofa and watching Blue Planet II.”

The couple have been so busy they haven’t even had time to book a honeymoon, following their nuptials in July.

“We’re waiting to see when we can squeeze it in,” said Janette.

“We’ve got a pretty busy time next year, but we want to go away as husband and wife and celebrate being married.”

Luckily, they will get a chance to spend some quality time together over Christmas, when they jet to Slovenia to spend the festive season with Aljaz’s family.

Janette and Aljaz, 27, tied the knot this year after six years of dating.

They had ceremonies in London, Florida (where Janette’s family live) and Slovenia, to ensure their elderly relatives in the different countries didn’t miss out.

A gushing Janette told OK! at the time: “It was the happiest two weeks of our lives.

“To say we got to walk down the aisle, exchange our vows and celebrate our marriage three times is really nice. Most people only have the one day.

“We would do it all again – all three weddings were just perfect.”

Aljaz and ex soap star Gemma are currently gearing up for this weekend’s live shows.

However, Janette and JLS popstar Aston went out of the competition in week seven, in a moment many have branded the most shocking part of this year’s Strictly.

Aston had been an early bookies’ favourite to make it all the way to final, but his Strictly experience went downhill after Craig Revel Horwood scored him just four of out of a possible 10 points.

And then head judge Shirley Ballas used her deciding vote to send him home after he landed in the dreaded dance-off against fellow popstar Mollie King.

Ever the gent, however, Aston insisted that although he was sad to leave, he’s just happy he even got to take part.

“I’m honestly gutted but, I mean, you have to take it on the chin as it’s such a brilliant show and, as I’ve said from day one, if I ever was to leave, I’m just happy I got to do it in the first place,” he said.

“And to do it with Janette was such a pleasure. I’m just happy to have done the show.”
