Silent Witness viewers point out ‘glaring error’ as Nikki’s locked in the bathroom

Are you in or out?

Silent Witness has been running for an incredible 21 series, so it’s to be expected that every once in a while they might get things wrong.

In last night’s episode they pushed it a bit too far though, and some eagle-eyed viewers caught them out.

After meeting handsome American Matt Garcia during an investigation, Dr Nikki Alexander finally let her heart rule her head.

The signs between Nikki and the US ambassador were clear, and they ended up going on a date.

Well, Nikki went round to his luxurious abode where he cooked a meal and kept the wine flowing.

And afterwards they wound up in bed together.

After a passionate tryst, the pair fell asleep, with Nikki awakening some time later to answer the call of nature.

She padded across the carpet on tip-toes so as not to wake Matt, and popped into the bathroom.

At this point, it was very clear that the bathroom door opened INWARDS.

After finishing up, Nikki tried to get back out – only to realise that the door was being blocked with something.

And not only that, she could hear the sounds of a scuffle taking place outside the door.

Panicking, Nikki tried the door again and again, eventually forcing it open to reveal a chair had been propped up outside, blocking the door’s path.

Viewers were quick to point out how strange this was, as a door opening inwards wouldn’t be affected by the chair at all!

One wrote: “Absolute rubbish!! You can’t wedge a door closed from the outside if it opens inward”.

Another said: “Why put a chair against a door that opens inwards?”

After finally breaking free of the physics-defying door, Nikki pulled on a robe and ran to the door, calling Matt’s name.

But he was nowhere to be found, suggesting he’d been kidnapped.

Perhaps there is some sophisticated door-locking detail we all missed – it was a very fancy house indeed, after all…
