Seven Years Switch fans urge Gemma to dump ‘drama queen’ Tony

Fans of the Channel 4 partner-swap show reckon Gemma should move on

| Updated:

Fans of Seven Years Switch believe Gemma should leave her “drama queen” partner Tony, even after the tantrum-prone hairdresser apologised for being “emotionally selfish” as the couple were reunited.

Tony, who appalled viewers last week when he told another contestant to ‘wind her neck in’, said he had been “inconsolable” after realising how self-centred he has been, vowing to Gemma he had no idea how much damage his behaviour had done to their relationship.

Reflecting on their experiences during an emotional heart to heart, he said: “It has been good but there have been moments where I have been inconsolable realising how emotionally selfish I am.”

Tony continued: “I have learned that it is not all about me. I swear to God I didn’t know I was acting that way.”

Gemma was glad to see Tony, and encouraged by what he said – but she was also clear she would only be persuaded by actions, not words.

Following their chat, she reflected: “I’m not under any false impressions that as soon as we go home everything will be fixed.

“I think if Tony was to come back [home] and I didn’t feel like he was putting in any effort then I’d certainly have to re-evaluate the situation and I feel quite in control of that.”

Tony, too, knew the hard work would begin when the couple returned back to the UK from the show.

“Of course it is going to take time,” he said.

“I’d be an idiot to think anything is hunky dory.”

And they weren’t keen on Gemma having a future with the man she’s been in a relationship with since she was 15, either…

Next week’s episode is the last in the series. Will Gemma and Tony go home as a couple?

Seven Year Switch is on Channel 4, Tuesday at 9pm.
