S Club 7’s Paul Cattermole in tears as he leaves First Dates Hotel single

Paul left the Channel 4 show without a date

Poor Paul Cattermole broke down in tears as he left Channel 4’s First Dates Hotel single last night.

The S Club 7 singer, who admitted he hadn’t had much luck with the ladies over the years, had to ask for a “moment” to pull himself together after it became clear music lover Anna wasn’t interested following their date.

Anna didn’t realise Paul was part of S Club 7 until the singer ended up reminiscing about his pop star days.

He told Anna: “I don’t tend to bring up on a date that I have been in a pop group. It’s not the thing I want to shout about.

“I ended up being in the group for six years. I did leave before the end, I was feeling like I was losing myself and I wasn’t very happy at all.

“I had the balls to say, ‘guys I’ve got to go,’ but not one of them said stay.”

He then went on to talk about his relationship with former S Club 7 co-star Hannah Spearrit.

“I was seeing a member of the pop group – Hannah, there was nothing natural about it,” he told her.

“Lovely person, but not at all did I think this was going to lead to… I think because of the lifestyle at work.”

To camera, Paul then suggested their relationship was set up.

“If you’re being controlled to the point your girlfriend is chosen for you, you’re going to quit it, and I did. It made it tough to get to grips with what made a real relationship,” he said.

All the talk of his pop star days and ex Hannah didn’t seem to sit well with Anna, who said she wasn’t interested in the singer despite having “so much in common”.

“I had a really lovely time,” Anna said. “But I do think it would be good if you were more confident, I think you’re a lovely person and the industry has beaten you around a bit.”

She went on: “You were apologising for yourself when you hadn’t even done anything.”

Addressing Anna’s comments, an upset Paul responded: “I’ve been told that a lot. I’ve made so many wrong choices.

“I haven’t had a normal life and it becomes obvious to anyone that I’ve been hurt in my heart, so I hide the real me,” Paul continued.

Viewers at home flocked to Twitter to show their support for Paul and said he deserves to find Mrs Right.

One wrote: “So gutted for Paul Cattermole. I thought he really showed that he liked her. I hope he finds love soon!”
