Ruth Langsford debuted her new look on Loose Women today as she defended Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas.

Ruth’s defence of Shirley comes after the Strictly judge was criticised by some people for wearing hair extensions, with some saying she was too old for them.

Towards the end of today’s (Monday, November 29) episode of Loose Women, Ruth discussed the criticism that Shirley, 61, had been on the receiving end of.

Presenting the segment, the 61-year-old donned a wig of long brown hair. As the other Loose Women laughed, Ruth explained why she was debuting a new look.

“A headline caught our eye this morning in the paper about Strictly judge Shirley Ballas,” she said. “Now Shirley was wearing long hair extensions on Strictly over the weekend and she’s come in for a bit of criticism.”

Loose Women then showed the headline in question, which was from the Daily Mail. The article by the paper showed off Shirley’s long brown hair extensions alongside the headline: “Shirl’s Curls Strictly judge has hair extensions at 61”.

What did Ruth say about the criticism Shirley had received?

Ruth then went on to explain that “some people” had said that Shirley was “too old” for long hair. The presenter then admitted that the criticism had “really got our backs up”.

She then went on to say: “We don’t believe that you’re ever too old for anything.”

“However, Judi,” she continued, “We did admit, didn’t we, that sometimes we suffer a bit of the inner troll.”

Ruth Langsford went on to explain that the “inner troll” was the little voice in your head that makes you doubt yourself.

Ruth then said that they were going to show some “solidarity” with Shirley. As well as wearing the long brown wig, the presenter then stood up to reveal she was wearing leather trousers too.

What else did the Loose Women say?

“Am I too old for that look?” she asked co-panellist Judi Love. Judi said no, and then said she was sick of women on TV having to fit into a certain category or look.

Ruth then bought out fellow panelists Coleen Nolan, who was wearing a short blue dress with tights, and Jane Moore, who came out wearing a mini-skirt and tights.

Bringing the conversation back round to Shirley and her extensions, Judi said: “Do what you wanna do, love up on yourself, it’s your body, it’s your hair, and like I say, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of reinvention or adding something to yourself.”

“I think women need to stop being so critical of other women,” Coleen Nolan added.
