Peter Andre slams Love Island star Michael Griffths’ “brutal” treatment of Amber Gill

Pete thinks she's the "nicest" islander

Peter Andre has thrown his support behind Love Island‘s Amber Gill over her “harsh” and “brutal” treatment at the hands of former romance Michael Griffiths.

Writing on Instagram for his 1.1 million followers, the Mysterious Girl singer said the 21-year-old hopeful “should not have been treated the way she was” and called her one of this year’s “nicest” islanders.

Pete, 46, shared a photo of Amber and wrote in the caption: “I guess we only see a snapshot of convos on this show but this girl should not have been treated the way she was.

“Even if [Michael] didn’t realise how harsh he was, you gotta feel for Amber. She started out with a tough exterior but is now for me one of the nicest. #loveisland @amberrosegill #brutal.”

The dad-of-four’s words were in response to scenes that played out on Love Island last night (July 15).

After a public vote whittled the least favourite islanders down to two couples earlier this week – Jordan and Anna, and Michael and Joanna – the islanders then had to pick which couple should stay.

In last night’s episode, the drama continued as the hopefuls then had to decide who to keep in the villa out of Michael and Joanna.

Michael was chosen to stay and when he didn’t immediately announce plans to leave the show with Joanna, she branded him a “snake” and stormed off.

Talk among the other islanders inevitably turned to Michael potentially rekindling his romance with Amber, whom he dumped in shocking scenes following her stint in Casa Amor several weeks ago.

But Michael, to make it clear he no longer had any feelings for Amber, walked up to her and told her “Sit down”, before quickly listing his reasons for staying loyal to Joanna and leaving her sitting alone and visibly shocked.

Peter Andre’s decision to publicly back Amber sparked a fierce debate among his followers, with some agreeing Amber had been treated harshly and others admitting they failed to see what Michael did wrong.

One said: “Am I missing something? What was she treated like? As in her silly mates filling her head with rubbish that Michael still wanted her?”

Another wrote: “When he’s not brutal she thinks he still likes her and then he’s messing her around… so he has to be brutal to get it through to her that he’s not interested. The guy cant win in my opinion.”

A third put: “It was disgusting, there are nicer ways to say ‘I’m not interested’. The way he spoke to her was a disgrace. She’s better well away from him… he’s shown his true colours.”

“I do like Amber and I do feel sorry for her, I just don’t think Michael did anything wrong last night,” said a fourth.
