Mrs Brown’s Boys viewers slam Rory replacement

He was finally unveiled on Christmas Day

There were big changes in the Christmas special of Mrs Brown’s Boys as the new Rory was finally unveiled.

Actor Rory Cowan announced in July he was quitting the show after 26 years, and his replacement was teased in the festive teaser earlier this month.

The change was to be explained by Agnes’s son having a full face transplant.

The hairdresser character spent most of the episode with his face shrouded by bandages.

And when they were finally unravelled, Mrs Brown exclaimed: “Who the [bleep] are you?”

The new Rory is being played by Damien McKiernan, who was once a professional snooker player.

He told the Radio Times he was nervous about inheriting the role from Rory Cowan.

“I actually have never met him but I admire him greatly for all he has achieved,” he said.

“It’s a difficult thing to do taking over from someone who has really excelled in a part, but I will try my best.”

Rory Cowan was unlikely to have watched who was taking over his role last night.

He told the Irish Telegraph: “It’s not my business any more who they get. I have no interest.”

Actor Rory was loved by loyal fans of the show, and it seems some will take a little time to adjust to the change.

There were some grunts of disapproval on Twitter as the show aired.

Sure, he just needs some time to bed in, so…

Rory Cowan departed the show after claiming he’s not been happy working there for the last two years. He told the Irish Mirror: “I got tired of it.

“There was no row with Brendan, there was no dispute over money or anything, in fact quite the opposite, I got so well paid that it enabled me to be able to leave, I didn’t need to stay.”
