Mother-in-law ‘fat-shames’ bride-to-be during wedding dress fitting

The woman admitted she's "very conscious" of the shape of her body

A woman was left stunned when her future mother-in-law made a comment about her weight during a wedding dress fitting.

Police detective Nichola will appear on tonight’s episode of Say Yes To The Dress Lancashire ahead of her wedding to Caroline’s son Lee.

Nichola admitted she’s “very conscious” about the shape of her body, adding she feels she doesn’t have a “very feminine shape”.

She told the camera: “I am very conscious of my shape, I feel like I’ve not got a very feminine shape. I’m nervous that I won’t find a dress.”

The former bodybuilder added: “Because I’ve been so in shape before, I think it’s made me more self-conscious because I’ve put on weight again.”

As she tried on a stunning £1,299 dress by Lux & Love, Caroline didn’t seem too complimentary towards her future daughter-in-law.

She said: “I think it’s because I can see the cups and perhaps see what you’ve eaten for dinner.”

Host Gok Wan was stunned and raised his eyebrows, before Caroline swiftly added: “Everything looks good on you, it’s just I think some things will look better.”

Nichola revealed she originally wanted a high-necked dress with a few sparkly bits and a fitted skirt.

Gok told her: “This dress is so safe it should come with a pillow” and encouraged her to go out of her comfort zone.

The presenter then added some “Gok magic” to the dress by adding a creeping panel down the midriff and around the waistline.

The bride said: “He’s completely taken away from the parts that I was worried about and replaced it with something very beautiful. I think I just got Gok-ed!”

Nichola was overcome with emotion as she looked at herself in the dress as well as her mum, Denise.

Nichola said: “I promised myself I wouldn’t cry and I didn’t feel emotional all day, but I just think it’s beautiful.”

And Caroline definitely approved, saying: “It looks amazing. I’m going to eat my words on dress number two.”
