Love Island recoupling enrages viewers who have complained to Ofcom

There were two shock dumpings

| Updated:

Love Island’s latest recoupling left some viewers so shocked and angry that they felt compelled to complain to Ofcom.

The explosive episode on Tuesday night (July 2) saw six contestants dumped from the island, while two were left broken hearted after being jilted by their ‘other half’.

There were tears (Tommy and Molly-Mae reunited, awwww), awkwardness (sorry Jordan, you’ve been replaced by a six-foot-seven beefcake basketball player) and fury (one word: Amber).

And some of those watching from home were so disgusted to see the contestants turning on each other, they expressed their concerns to the TV watchdog Ofcom – formally known as The Office of Communications.

In fact, 36 viewers contacted the regulator after watching Michael ditch Amber for new girl Joanna, while Curtis looked set to break Amy’s heart despite choosing to stay coupled with her.

A spokesman for the regulator told The Sun: “We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”

During the explosive ‘stick or twist’ recoupling, the biggest shock was Michael ditching Amber for new girl Joanna – with Amber set to go nuclear in tonight’s visit to the villa.

Maria, Nabila, Lavena, Stevie, Dan and Dennon all left last night, while Jordan remains in the house, but with a single status, along with Amber.

Anton coupled up with new girl Belle, Danny chose Jourdan, Lucie got with new boy George, Maura picked personal trainer Marvin, and Anna walked in with basketball player Ovie.

Of course, it’s not the first time Love Island has been hit by complaints.

Last year’s series saw Dani Dyer break down in tears, after learning beau Jack Fincham had been sent to Casa Amor with his ex-girlfriend.

The scenes sparked 2525 complaints from viewers, who claimed that Dani had been ’emotionally manipulated’ by show bosses.

At the end of last month, ED! reported that Ofcom had received nearly 200 complaints about the series amid alleged bullying.

The ITV show has come under intense scrutiny following the suicides of two former contestants.

Beauty queen Sophie Gradon, who appeared in the second series of Love Island, was found dead in June 2018 at the age of 32.

And footballer Mike Thalassitis, a contestant in series three, died in March of this year. He was just 26.
