Louis Walsh has a theory on why his X Factor act was first to get the boot

Spencer Sutherland was voted off on Saturday

Spencer Sutherland became the first act to be voted off The X Factor this weekend and his mentor Louis Walsh thinks he knows why.

Speaking about his departure from the singing competition on today’s Good Morning Britain, Spencer told presenters Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley that it was all down to him being from the USA.

He said: “I talked to Louis about it after the show and he said ‘you didn’t get voted off because of your singing, it was because you don’t have a home base here. You don’t have this huge area of people voting for you and that’s what happens’.”

Spencer said he was “cool” about the rejection as he was happy for the other contestants who went through.

Asked why he has chosen to come on the UK version of the hit show, he explained: “No other show has the star power of the UK X Factor.

“In the USA it is so hard to stand out as there are so many male solo singers.”

He said he intended to stay in Britain and will keep going with his singing career.

Meanwhile, the second casualty of the weekend, Talia Dean appeared on Lorraine.

She told host Lorraine Kelly she wasn’t upset about her exit as she’s had such an amazing experience.

She said it was a pleasure to perform on the live shows as she was reinstated as a ‘wild card’ after being sent home from judges’ houses by Nicole Scherzinger.

The X Factor was full of surprises at the weekend with their revamped format for the live shows and the shock absence of Simon Cowell.

The music mogul missed both Saturday and Sunday’s shows after a fall at home due to low blood pressure. He has vowed to take better care of himself as fans hope he will be well enough to return to the show next week.

Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon was a last minute stand-in on Sunday, watching the overs and groups categories go head to head. The least popular – Talia – was then voted off.

On Saturday’s show, the girls and boys sang for survival with Spencer receiving the least votes and being shown the door.

Instead of the usual sing-off on Sunday between the two least popular acts, the two most popular sang instead to compete for a prize to meet popstar Pink.

Grace won the treat after impressing in the ‘Prize Fight’ sing-off against the group Rak-Su.
