Loose Women slams claims Kaye Adams made rude gesture during heated ISIS bride debate

A rep for the show insisted she didn't make the rude hand gesture

Loose Women has hit back at suggestions Kaye Adams made a rude hand gesture while discussing ISIS bride Shamima Begum wanting to return to the UK.

During Wednesday’s Loose Women, Kaye and her fellow panellists spoke about Begum having had her British Citizenship revoked after her family were told in a letter from the Home Office.

Debating whether Begum should have lost her citizenship, Kaye hit back at the 93% of viewers who supported the decision.

Kaye claimed there were two reasons for wanting Begum to remain in Syria.

Pointing her forefinger, Kaye said: “Do we want to feel safer…”

Kaye then switched to her middle finger as she gestured again.

She said: “….or do we just want retribution? If you want retribution leave her there.”

The presenter then pointed her forefinger again as she added: “If you want to be safer that’s just nonsense.”

Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to suggest Kaye was putting her middle finger up deliberately.

One person said: “Kaye showing the middle finger,” while another wrote: “Kaye Adams makes her view clear,” alongside a screenshot of Kaye with her finger up.

However, a spokesperson for Loose Women has now cleared things up and insisted any suggestions Kaye made a rude hand gesture on the show is “completely untrue”.

They said: “To suggest Kaye made any kind of gesture on today’s show is completely untrue.

“If viewed in context it is obvious that Kaye was using her hands while talking through a number of options related to today’s debate.”

It comes after Begum, who fled the UK to join the Islamic State terror group in Syria aged 15, was stripped of her British citizenship.

On Tuesday, Home Secretary Sajid Javid ordered the move following a huge debate.

ITV News reported a letter from the department was sent to Begum’s mother.

It read: “Please find enclosed papers that relate to a decision taken by the Home Secretary, to deprive your daughter, Shamima Begum, of her British citizenship.

“In light of the circumstances of your daughter, the notice of the Home Secretary’s decision has been served of file today (19th February), and the order removing her British citizenship has subsequently been made.”

The letter added that she had a right to appeal.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the family’s lawyer, Tasnime Akunjee, said: “Family are very disappointed with the Home Office’s intention to have an order made depriving Shamima of her citizenship. We are considering all legal avenues to challenge this decision.”

Last week, Begum – then heavily pregnant – was found in a refugee camp in Syria where she said she wanted to return to the UK. She then welcomed a baby boy on Sunday.

During an interview with ITV News on Monday, Begum insisted she was “not a threat” to Britain.

Speaking about the situation, Kaye said on Loose Women today: “We have to look at this rationally.

“I’d rather have control of this girl and the other 800 floating out there rather than floating out in the world, disaffected, and causing trouble. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”
