We’ve all been through slightly dodgy fashion moments in our lives, and Little Mix are no exception.
The band have spoken out about their look when they started out on The X Factor back in 2011, with Jesy Nelson branding their style: “Cheap and tacky.”
Speaking on This Morning as part of a fashion and beauty Q&A, the group – made up of Jesy, Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards – laughed about their makeup choices over the years.
Speaking about starting out, Perrie revealed: “We went from really young, fresh girls – not really wearing much makeup, maybe a little bit of foundation on the lip when it was in – to then being really heavy and looking way older. We looked way beyond our years!”
Jesy interrupted to add: “Very cheap and tacky!” Perrie scolded her, saying: “Jes! It was the style back then!”
She continued: “We just felt more secure with lots and lots of makeup on.
“I do really just think that we’ve got better at knowing what we suit and what we need. And we don’t feel the need to pile it on anymore… I think that comes with age and confidence.”
Following their hugely successful appearance on the ITV talent show, the singers went on to release a string of hits, but split ways with X Factor mogul Simon Cowell last November, following an “extraordinary row”.

Fans loved the honest comments from the twenty-somethings, with one writing: “Beautiful girls beautiful artists. They have a lot more to give to the world. Xx.”
Another said: “They had no say and stylists telling them what to wear. They were young girls ffs, give them a break!”
A third joked: “That’s called being young!”
But not everyone was buying the fresh-faced line, with one comment laughing: “They are still absolutely caked in makeup! lol!” Another said: “They ‘used to’ ? Blimey, what do they call their current look if the old one was cheap ? Talk about delusional.”
