Martin Compston has sparked rumours Line of Duty could see one of its old baddies return for the series five finale.
The actor, who plays AC-12’s DS Steve Arnott, shared a snap of himself alongside former co-star Craig Parkinson on social media, whipping fans into a frenzy at the prospect his character, Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan, could feature in episode six.

Martin captioned the Instagram post: “Looking forward to ep six.”
Corrupt cop Cottan, a.k.a The Caddy, was was killed at the end of series three in a shower of bullets, exposed as a fixer for a paedophile ring.
Before he died from his injuries, he made a declaration that unmasked a number of high-ranking police officers who were part of the organised crime syndicate.
While his death was fairly convincing to say the least, some fans are certain he’s set to return to Line of Duty.
Rushing to the comments, one wrote: “Omg is he aliveeeeeee?”
Another said: “Rumour has it Dot is making a comeback from the dead. Or they’re just out for a pint. It’s all too much.”
A third told him: “If this is real, I’m gonna riot.”
Someone else responded: “Omg the Caddy!! I can’t cope.”
A fifth asked: “Is the Caddy back?”
It follows a potential tease of Dot’s return offered by Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio last year.
He shared a snap on Twitter of a bedraggled-looking Cottan speaking to undercover cop John Corbett (Stephen Graham) and wrote: “The Caddy’s back from the dead to plot more mayhem.”

Will Cottan have a role to play in exposing the identity of high-ranking bent copper ‘H’? It was, after all, his dying declaration that started the whole ‘H’ business (although what he said wasn’t revealed until series four).
Earlier this week, Lisa McQueen actress Rochenda Sandall appeared on This Morning and appeared to suggest that viewers might have to wait until series six to find out who ‘H’ is.
But yesterday Adrian Dunbar, who plays AC-12 gaffer and everyone’s favourite Northern Irish copper Ted Hastings, said on Good Morning Britain that all will be revealed in the upcoming feature-length finale.
