Kelvin Fletcher is launching a career in Hollywood thanks to “amazingly connected” friend Mark Wright

Will his showbiz friends help him land a new show?

Former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher has revealed he is heading to Hollywood this spring to try and forge a career in an American TV show.

The star, who played Dales favourite Andy Sugden for 20 years, went to LA for pilot season in January this year, and was given such positive feedback that he is sure America is the perfect next step in his career.

The actor recently told the Daily Star that he had managed to get himself an agent in Hollywood and spent most of his time across the pond in meetings and auditions.

But between forging a new life over in the US, Kelvin also met up with friends Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan.

The newspaper reported that Kelvin’s wife Liz used to work with Michelle years ago and have remained in touch ever since.

But while Michelle is often only in Tinseltown for a few weeks at a time visiting her husband, Mark has put down roots there for the foreseeable future as his Hollywood career goes from strength-to-strength as an entertainment reporter for Extra TV.

Kelvin told the newspaper: “Mark lives out there so I spent a lot of time with him. He is amazingly well connected. Within the first week I was out having a beer with Niall from One Direction.”

Luckily for fitness fanatic Kelvin he is going to fit right in with the LA lifestyle: “I’ve always kept myself in shape. In LA, everybody is so beautiful but thankfully I do a lot of exercise.

“I joined a CrossFit gym while I was there. I worked out at 6am and then went down the beach. It was an amazing life.”

Kelvin is currently filming a new show called The Shore where he is playing his first gay role: “My character has got everything – a great job, beautiful home, great friends – but the one area which is not quite happening for him is his love life. I’ve never played a gay character, so the thought of that was hugely exciting.”

So with his career going great guns, does this mean we won’t be seeing Andy Sugden back in the Dales any time soon?

“Emmerdale have asked if my interest in the show remains and it does. But at the moment I’ve got no plans to go back.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
