Crossfire starring Keeley Hawes on BBC One – what’s it about?

The BBC has described Crossfire as a major new series from the makers of the hugely popular The Salisbury Poisonings.

Crossfire is set in a luxurious resort in the Canary Islands.

Viewers are introduced to Jo (Keely Hawes), who is sunbathing on her hotel room balcony while on a dream holiday with her family and friends.

However, her world is turned upside down when shots ring out across the complex.

Gunmen, out for revenge, have turned a slice of paradise into a terrifying heart-breaking hell.

With the unsuspecting holidaymakers and hotel staff forced to make monumental split-second life or death decisions, the consequences will linger long after the final shots are fired.

BBC say that Crossfire is “an edge-of-your-seat nail-biting thriller” which is ultimately a story of survival and resilience.

Louise Doughty has created and written the series, and it’s her first original series for television.

TV viewers will know Louise as the author of Apple Tree Yard.

Piers Wenger, Director of BBC Drama, says of the thriller: “Louise’s scripts crackle with adrenalin, intrigue and secrets kept among a long-standing group of friends.

“But amidst the action and emotion, Crossfire explores the consequences of the secrets we keep, the risks we take and the lies we tell to conceal them.”

When will Crossfire start on BBC One?

Filming has only just begun on Crossfire.

That means we’re looking at a transmission date of 2022.

If you need a Keeley Hawes fix before then, the actress is due to star in the upcoming The Midwich Cuckoos and Finding Alice series two.

How many episodes will Crossfire be?

Crossfire will only be three episodes long.

And we’re already pretty gutted about that.

Each episode will be one hour long.

Crossfire cast – who else will star in thriller opposite Keeley Hawes?

Keeley Hawes will star as Jo in the upcoming thriller Crossfire.

Crossfire will also star The A Word and Innocent actor Lee Ingleby.

Lee and Keeley are both stars of Line of Duty, although they didn’t appear in the same series.

The Bay’s Daniel Ryan will also appear in the three-part series, as will Small Axe star Josette Simon.

Shetland’s Anneika Rose – another Line of Duty alumni! – has also joined the cast.

The Stranger’s Vikash Bhai, Nasrovia’s Hugo Silva, The Mallorca Files’ Alba Brunet, Alex Rider’s Shalisha James-Davis and Ariyon Bakare of His Dark Materials fame are all onboard, too.

What has Keeley Hawes said about Crossfire?

Keeley Hawes has said: “I’m so excited to be embarking on this brilliantly compelling and propulsive drama for the BBC.”

Meanwhile, writer Louise Doughty said: “This is a drama about a group of ordinary people caught up in an extraordinary event – a gun attack on the hotel where they are staying.

“In extremity, each character is faced with a set of dilemmas.

“And, at the heart of it is Jo, who booked the holiday and unknowingly put her family and friends – and herself – at risk.”

She adds: “I’m fascinated by the idea of how so-called ordinary people respond to intense pressure.”
