A new show to help female celebs aged over 40 find fun, adventure – and possibly even love – on the trip of a lifetime to a Greek island is reportedly being made by ITV.
The programme has been inspired by the film Shirley Valentine and the success of ITV2’s Love Island, according to The Sun.
They report that the show will be called ‘My Shirley Valentine Summer’ and will see eight famous females travel to a Greek Island, just like Shirley, played by Pauline Collins, did in the 1989 film.
She left her neglectful husband behind for find fun and self-discovery and befriended a charming local man during her stay.
“Casting agents are busy choosing celebs to take part at the moment and are focusing on single women at a crossroads in their life who would benefit from the journey,” a source told The Sun.
They report that filming will begin next month at a luxury villa with Twofour Productions, who have previously produced This Time Next Year.
They’re no strangers to sending celebs on adventures overseas, as they’ve also made The Real Marigold On Tour and Costa Del Celebrity.
The source added: “Whether it is discovering a new relationship, hobby or career or rediscovering their confidence and ambition, the show will see the famous group living together and forming new friendships to share every moment of this unique experience.”
