Joanne Clifton supports brother Kevin amidst ex-wife’s claims

The former stars of the BBC show used to compete as a duo

Former Strictly pro Joanne Clifton doesn’t dance with her brother Kevin much any more  – but she’s still got his back.

The Strictly siblings were close as children and competed as a dance duo.

And, when they started to go their separate ways on the dance floor, they decided to pursue different styles so they didn’t have to go up against each other.

Years later they are still looking out for each other, like the time Joanne weighed in after Kevin’s ex-wife made some claims about him.

What did Kevin’s ex-wife say about him?

Back in 2019, Clare Craze – who Kevin split from in 2010 – said he was “fame hungry”.

She also said he’d dumped her so that he could go off and become a star.

At the time Clare told The Sun: “During that week I didn’t eat or sleep. My mother was so worried about me she took me to the doctor. It felt like all hope from my life had gone – it was overwhelming.

“Afterwards, I went to a bar and took a load of anxiety pills with another large glass of wine.

“My memory gets hazy then but my father told me afterwards I was found near Waterloo Bridge by passers-by who called an ambulance. I woke up in hospital on a drip.”

But Joanne wasn’t going to let anyone say that about her big bro and, at the time, sent what was seen as a thinly-veiled dig at Clare.

“The things you do for money, ey?” she tweeted in what seemed to be a response to Clare’s remarks.

Kevin married fellow Strictly star Karen in 2015

In 2015, Kevin went on to tie the knot with Karen Hauer, another star of the Strictly dance floor.

They split in 2018 and Kevin is now dating TV star Stacey Dooley, who he was partnered with in the ballroom contest.

Does Joanne Clifton still speak to Strictly pro Karen?

But it doesn’t look like Joanne will have to fight her brother’s corner with Karen, as she and Kev had an amicable break up and are still friends.

Karen told Hello! after they had split: “As performers with our fans and as a couple with our family, we have shared so much, so no matter what has happened, we can continue.

“Things don’t have to fall apart.

“Throughout the years we have had a good friendship, and that is a great base.”

“What the future holds we have no idea,” Kevin said.

“We are the best of friends, have a good laugh, and life goes on.”

Is another marriage on the cards?

Kevin has now been with Stacey for over two years but in April she hinted that marriage may not be on the cards for her.

Speaking on her W show, Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over, the documentary-maker said: “Kev and I have been together for two years. I don’t think I want to get married.

“I think I’d be more interested in starting a family than getting married.”

Joanne is on The Hit List at 6.10pm on BBC One on Saturday.
