Holby City star gets married hours after character ties the knot on screen

The star flew out to Greece to say 'I do'

Holby City’s James Anderson has tied the knot with his childhood sweetheart Rebecca Hibbs in a ceremony in Greece.

Just 24 hours after his character Dr Oliver Valentine got married to his on-screen partner Zosia on the show, James got married to his long-term girlfriend.

The actor took to his Twitter to express his excitement to be tying the knot in real life.

He wrote: “Got married last night on BBC One. Now off to get married in real life. #goingforthedouble.”

His followers rushed to congratulate the star saying: “Congratulations, have a good one!”

Another added: “Congratulations James! Wishing you a magnificent day and much happiness with your bride!”

A third tweeted: “At least this one will be less dramatic. Have a lovely day.”

James popped the question to Rebecca on the sun-soaked island last year.

And he proposed just days before filming his on-screen proposal to Zosia, who is played by Camilla Arfwedson.

He also admitted that his on-screen relationship is very similar to his own off-screen.

Speaking to Inside Soap at the time James said: “Weirdly, we shot the proposal a couple of days after I got engaged in real life.

“There are a few things in Ollie and Zosia’s story that strangely mimic my own, and in some ways Camilla’s personal life too. It’s been lovely for us both.”

He also joked about trying to get away from wedding planning. He added:  “It’s hilarious.

“I can’t get away from it! I get home and my fiancée says, ‘we need to sort out the guest list’, then I get to work and do the same thing!”

On Thursday James shared a black and white selfie of himself grinning on his big day.

He captioned the shot: “The blushing bride.”

James first appeared in the BBC soap in 2009 before leaving the show for four years, making his comeback in 2014.

His character’s first wife Tara passed away in 2013 from a brain tumour and now he’s hoping to find happiness with Zosia.

Zosia and Oliver finally made it down the aisle for their special day on Tuesday’s show.

And it’s probably safe to say it was much more dramatic than his real-life wedding.

Zosia’s dad, CEO Guy Self (John Michie) got drunk and crashed the reception.

He then delivered a speech to the guests before being thrown out by Lee Mead’s character, Lofty.

Speaking about the “tragic” day Camilla opened up about her on-screen wedding.

She said: “It’s all just complete chaos because of what happened with Guy, so there’s not really a moment where Ollie and her can celebrate being married.

“The only moment of joy they’ve had was walking from the ceremony to the dining room for their reception, where all hell broke loose. It’s all quite tragic really.”
