Fan offered Gogglebox vicar cash to ‘save’ marriage

She's also had requests for selfies at funerals

| Updated:

Former Gogglebox star Reverend Kate Bottley has revealed a concerned fan once offered to pay for counselling to “save” her marriage – even though it’s absolutely fine!

The vicar, who has a rock-solid relationship with husband Graham, says it was one of several bizarre requests from strangers as a result of her new-found fame.

Kate has even been asked for selfies by mourners at funerals she’s conducted.

“The worst bit is when people presume to know you. There was a guy who wanted to pay for me and my husband to have marriage counselling because quite clearly our marriage was in trouble,” she told the Sunday Mirror.

“Me and Graham have been together for 22 years, he’s a great partner who supports and encourages me.

“He’s there for me and always will be.”

Kate has certainly been kept busy since appearing on the sofa on Gogglebox with her husband.

Offers of TV and radio work have flooded in, and she has appeared on BBC1’s  Celebrity MasterChef, Celebrity Mastermind, Songs of Praise and The One Show and BBC2’s recent series Pilgrimage: The Road to Santiago.

She now hosts Radio 2’s Sunday morning show, following her stint doing Pause For Thought on Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show.

Kate says that being recognised from the showbiz world has come with some strange encounters with fans, even when she’s going about her duties for the Church.

She said the grandson of a man they were burying asked her for a private word in the vestry, which turned out to be a selfie request.

Meanwhile, Kate said earlier this month she’s got her eye on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing, after watching Rev. Richard Coles on the show last year.

“I’ve not been asked. But I am sure the nation is ready to see my backside in sequins,” she told Daily Star.

“I mean they did watch Rev Richard Coles – and he’s a trailblazer. Watch this space.”
