GMB viewers in stitches as Andi Peters has to rescue Richard Arnold’s costume failure

Oh sweetie darling!

Richard Arnold’s entertainment news descended into farce on today’s Good Morning Britain as he dressed up as Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous and then suffered a wardrobe malfunction.

The presenter paid hommage to Joanna Lumley’s character to celebrate 25 years since the comedy first hit our screens.

Wearing a blonde wig, smudged lipstick and a leopard print jacket, Richard came unstuck as he grappled with how to wear his accessory of a feather boa.

“They are difficult to wear,” Kate Garraway told him.

Trying to regain some composure so he could address rumours on the forthcoming I’m A Celeb line-up, Richard re-positioned his feather boa.

But then as he turned his head, his blonde wig fell off and dropped to the floor to his dismay.

“That would never happen to Joanna Lumley!” Susanna Reid quipped.

With the wig now on the floor, Richard was unable to reach it from his high stool and was left feeling red-faced as his costume didn’t work without it.

“Look how you all rush to help!” he said sarcastically to everyone in the studio as he attempted to smooth his hair.

Luckily for him, it was Andi Peters to the rescue! The presenter was waiting on the sofa to give details of a competition and leapt up to grab Richard’s wig and put it back in place.

“Andi loves a bit of air time!” Ben Shephard said about the intervention to which Andi quickly retorted, “it’s hair time!”

The moment lightened the mood on what had been a serious show as the presenters discussed the deepening political crisis in Westminster and the murder of Becky Watts to promote a documentary Susanna has fronted on the investigation into her death.

Amused viewers took to Twitter to thank Richard for brightening up their mornings.

However, others were baffled by his costume, asking if he was meant to be Rod Stewart, Bet Lynch, Pat Butcher or Elton John.

When he could finally get on with delivering his entertainment news in his costume, Richard denied that he would be heading to the I’m A Celeb jungle “to eat bugs” but said he would be there on a “professional capacity” to report on what’s happening.

He said Gemma Collins could be returning while the show bosses are keen for there to be a jungle romance.
