GMB in chaos as Piers Morgan arrives on set four seconds before going on air

His pal Eamonn Holmes rushed to defend him

Good Morning Britain producers were unimpressed with Piers Morgan on Tuesday morning, when he showed up on set with only four seconds to go before they were live to the nation.

His co-host Susanna Reid joked about his late arrival as they began the show, playing a clip of a panicked-looking Piers arriving, as someone quickly attached his mic and he hurriedly sat down.

Susanna told viewers: “Four seconds to on-air and this was the scene in the studio…”

The video zoomed in on a cross-looking Susanna who commented: “Look at the state of my face.”

Charlotte Hawkins added: “Talk about leaving it til the last minute!”

Piers justified himself, insisting: “Never missed a plane, never missed an on-air time.”

The 53-year-old blamed the makeup team for his last minute arrival, saying he was chatting away when: “Someone came in casually and said, ’40 seconds to air.’ I went, ‘WHAT? 40 seconds?!'”

Watching the clip again, Susanna asked: “Were you doing your trousers up?” as Richard Arnold commented wryly: “Tucking himself in.”

GMB told him off on Twitter, writing: “Think you’re running late this morning? This was @PiersMorgan walking into the studio FOUR SECONDS before we went on air this morning… Talk about cutting it fine!”

Those watching at home were somewhere between shocked and amused, with one commenting that this happens “when you’re allowed to act bigger than the programme itself and it’s allowed to carry on. No wonder bad behaviour goes unchecked”.

Another added: “It’s called professional curtesy. Get there in enough time so you don’t put the team under undue pressure.”

A third suggested maybe he was late because he was “too busy counting his followers.”

Many other viewers defended him, including fellow ITV presenter, Eamonn Holmes, who tweeted: “Arriving in studio early is like arriving at an airport early – a waste of time. 4 Seconds before transmission?

“Believe me that’s not cutting it fine. Could read the paper in that time. Honestly, youngsters today.”

Others agreed, with one tweeting: “If there were 4 seconds to spare surely he’s not late?” while another commented: “Just in time is still in time in my book.”
