Gino’s Italian Family Adventure on ITV1 – what’s it about?

As the title suggests, the show features Gino D’Acampo, his family and the beautiful landscape of Italy – what’s not to love?

For this series, Gino takes his wife Jessica and three “British-born bambinos” – Luciano, Rocco and Mia – around some of the hidden gems of his native homeland.

The This Morning chef investigates the roots of his passion for food.

He rediscovers the places and the flavours that shaped him and inspired him to become a chef.

Gino’s kids visit Sardinia every summer on holiday, but the family rarely ventures further and he’s determined to plunge them into the real Italy and embrace their heritage.

Episode one

In episode one, Gino takes his wife, Jess, and their three children, Luciano, Rocco and Mia, for an “untypical” D’Acampo day out.

The aim? To help them get in touch with their Italian roots!

They start their journey by discovering the lesser-known Eastern Sardinia.

The family heads out on a kayak adventure to experience the coasts beautiful limestone caves.

Later, they enjoy lunch on a secluded beach – a D’Acampo family favourite of “salsiccia e fagioli”, or sausage and beans.

Afterwards they head inland, to the mountainous area of Lodè, stopping off en route at an ancient nuraghe, a mysterious 3000-year-old stone structure that is Sardinia’s equivalent of Stonehenge.

In the mountains, they meet local shepherd, Gianni, whose family have been rearing sheep on the land for 200 years.

Gianni enlists the D’Acampos to help round up his flock of sheep, before teaching them how to milk them and make the famous local delicacy, pecorino cheese, according to an age-old family method.

He says: “I’d done some [camera] work with my daughter Mia and she was very good.

“I done something before with Luciano, too, so I knew he’d be alright. Rocco I was sure about it.

“The one I wasn’t sure about was Jessica, my wife, because she doesn’t really like to get involved in it.

“But the lockdown sort of helped, because we were all very eager to do something different.

“So that was the right timing.

“I said, ‘Let’s go to Italy, I’ll take each of you around Italy!”
