GBBO got underway last night with plenty of drama, as hopeful Sura knocked her fellow contestant Dave’s cakes to the floor.
In the first technical challenge of The Great British Bake Off, aired yesterday (Tuesday, September 22) evening, the contestants had to make pineapple upside down cakes.
And viewers were mortified when Dave’s entry ended up on the floor.
What happened with Sura and Dave on The Great British Bake Off?
Sura, a 31-year-old pharmacy worker, was trying to swat a fly when she accidentally whacked Dave’s cakes, sending them flying.
Shocked, she said: “I’m so sorry, there was a fly. I went to shoo it away and I knocked it.”

“Don’t worry about it, it’s fine,” Dave assured her. “I’m sure they can go by what they looked like before they went over.”
Sura knocking Dave’s pineapple upside down cakes off his slate is still the biggest disaster of 2020.
New host Matt Lucas told them: “The good news is, the front two [cakes] are fine… we’ll tell Paul [Hollywood] what happened.”
Shortly after, Sura stood weeping over what had happened and presenter Noel Fielding comforted her.
What did Great British Bake Off viewers say about the incident?
Reacting on Twitter, one viewer said: “I’d lash Sura’s right in the bin if I was Dave. Absolutely raging #GBBO.”
Another tweeted: “After all that has happened this year, Sura knocking Dave’s pineapple upside down cakes off his slate is still the biggest disaster of 2020 #GBBO.”
A third wrote: “Oh nooo, Dave and Sura. Secondhand misery for them both, I think I’d just shrivel up and die right there #GBBO.”

Sura went on to win the technical challenge, despite what happened with Dave’s cakes.
