First Dates keeps promise to bring back fans' favourite part — and adds jaw-dropping new twist

Entertainment Daily! has had a sneak peak at the next episode

Fans of First Dates who revolted against producers for dropping the much-loved "what happened next" updates will be relieved to hear they're definitely back this week — and there's even a brand new bonus segment.

Viewers were up in arms when the dating show's series opener on Wednesday ended without the traditional catch-ups of how the couples fared once the cameras stopped rolling.

The uproar was so great that Channel 4 promised within hours to bring them back.

And having watched a preview of episode two, we can confirm that not only are the on-screen captions back in all their glory but the instalment also climaxes with a jaw-dropping twist involving one of the couples.

Without giving away too many spoilers, one of the male diners at the famous restaurant who'd decided he didn't see a romantic future with his date subsequently realises he'd made a mistake and has a change of heart.

We enjoyed watching the daters in their joint post-date interviews so thought we would treat viewers to an 'outtake' round up.

Viewers see the episode culminate, after the return of the catch-up updates, in him making a Skype call to the woman in New Zealand, where she was then travelling, begging her to meet up for a second date on her return to the UK.

You'll have to tune in to the show on Wednesday to find out which of the couples it was and whether she said yes or no.

After last week's furore, Channel 4 said: "We enjoyed watching the daters in their joint post-date interviews so thought we would treat viewers to an 'outtake' round up.

"For future episodes the more familiar style catch-ups will return."
