Hollyoaks’ death leaves fans devastated

Somebody pass us the Kleenex...

Although Hollyoaks’ Maggie Kinsella had been fighting her terminal cancer hard, nothing could have prepared viewers from the emotions that came when she finally passed away in tonight’s show on Channel 4.

We had seen Maggie hitting such a low point that she actually considered euthanasia when it was all becoming too much.

She even enlisted the help of her son Scott, but when her other son Damon found out what was going on, he was ready to tell the police what his brother and mum had planned.

Until Maggie realised the extent of what she was about to do, as well as the seriousness of implicating Scott, and decided against it.

Maggie, played by actress Michelle Homes, decided to leave the hospital and try to complete some things that were on her bucket list instead.

After going on a pub crawl, and also running out of a restaurant without paying, her biggest wish was to sing with Van Morrison.

Something in the short space of time she had left, that sadly couldn’t be done.

So her sons, Damon and Scott, and their mate Brody, sang her the singer’s legendary hit Brown Eyed Girl.

As they sang it to Maggie, the mum passed away peacefully, leaving not only her sons devastated but an army of Hollyoaks viewers too.

Actress Michelle revealed to the Radio Times that she’d loved every minute of playing Maggie, and wanted her last scenes with the bucket list to be memorable ones.

She said: “Yes, I didn’t want it all to be sad, I said to the producers I wanted Maggie to represent women going through this in a positive way. Maybe it does help people and can be inspiring, I hope so.”

As she went on to reveal that it wasn’t her that was brave enough to streak through the village.

“Although it was a body double streaking through the village in my underwear, I didn’t fancy that! The bucket list brought some comedy into it which is what I love doing the most.”

Hollyoaks continues Monday at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 7pm for First Look on E4
