Ex Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall wants return to the show

Star says they’d love to reprise island cop role

Actor Kris Marshall could be set for a surprise return to Death in Paradise after giving the thumbs up for a comeback to the BBC crime drama.

The 46-year-old starred for three series as DI Humphrey Goodman between 2013 and 2017 before bowing out to spend more time with his family.

He took over in the lead role from Ben Miller, who played DI Richard Poole, until his character decided to move back to London from the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie to be with his beloved.

But after two years away from the show Kris has left the door open for a comeback, telling reporters he would “absolutely” reprise the role.

Asked whether he would consider a cameo appearance, the My Family star made it clear he would be keen.

“Would I go back, and do a cameo in Death in Paradise?” he said during a press event for upcoming ITV drama Sanditon.

“Unequivocally yes.”

He continued, indicating a producer for Sanditon also worked on Death in Paradise: “My ex-boss and my current boss is over there. And so, unequivocally yes.”

Kris revealed in 2017 that Death in Paradise took six months to film each year in Guadeloupe – and being away from home had become too much for him.

The dad-of-two said: “The last series I did on my own, which was quite tough.”

He continued during the appearance on Good Morning Britain: “Skyping just leaves me bereft and then I have to go and drown my sorrows in the bar.

“In previous years I’ve been able to take my family with me but we had a daughter this time last year and so bringing her and my son, he’s about to start school, and it all became a bit of a juggling mission.

“So that was really the reason behind [my departure].”
