The Chase contestant mocked after ‘epic fail on obvious question’

Call yourself a sports fan?

The first rule of appearing on The Chase is to NEVER reveal your specialist subject – because you’ll never live it down if you then get a question wrong on that very topic.

But that’s exactly what happened to contestant Mark Deeks when he appeared on the ITV quiz show on Wednesday (July 17).

And we all know what fans of The Chase are like when this happens – brutal!

Mark appeared alongside Kim, Gwyneth and Brian with all four of them hoping to beat The Chaser and win a share of the prize fund.

But it wasn’t to be for Mark, who was second to take on Mark Labbett, aka The Beast.

Although he started well during the cash builder round, it started to go wrong for Mark when he faced The Beast.

Having declared he was a sports fan to host Bradley Walsh, some viewers expected him to fly through any sporting questions.

But sadly, it wasn’t to be!

Bradley asked Mark: “Which of these Formula One races takes place on a street circuit?”

The answer was either Abu Dhabi, Malaysia or Singapore, and Mark chose the first answer.

However, the correct answer was in fact, Singapore.

Mark himself was forced to declare “whoops”.

Rubbing salt in the wound and smirking from ear to ear, The Chaser said: “You know we’re always so happy to see the best player in the team go back in the hutch.”

But those watching from home were more savage as The Beast got the question right, sending Mark home!

One said: “Loves all sports, goes out on sport question, shocker.”

Another wrote: ‘Sports expert out on a sports question.”

A third typed: “Knew nothing about sports, what a plonker!”

But Mark – who is actually a journalist for Sky Sports – defended himself on Twitter, saying: “I said I was a sports fan, not that I was a sports expert!”
