Rachel Riley hits back at trolls accusing her of wearing ‘inappropriate clothing’

Countdown star among several Channel 4 favourites biting back about viewer complaints

TV personality Rachel Riley has shrugged off her haters in a hilarious short film from Channel 4 about complaints the broadcaster receives about its programming.

The Countdown maths expert, 33, is just one of several Channel 4 stars to feature in the short, with the likes of Great British Bake Off stars Prue Leith and Sandi Toksvig also involved in the sardonic look at some of the more unreasonable and ridiculous gripes sent in by narked off viewers.

Jamie Oliver, Channel 4 newsreaders Jon Snow, Cathy Newman and Krishnan Guru-Murthy and the cast of Derry Girls also feature in the series of ripostes.

“Her outfit is totally inappropriate,” Rachel says in voiceover, reading out the complaint sent in about her attire as she is seen arranging figures on the show’s blue set wall as if for a game.

And as she shared the clip with her Twitter followers, Rachel quipped she has ‘somewhere special’ she stores away all the gripes aimed at her.

I have a special shredder where I keep all mine safe,” she joked.

Supportive fans were quick to offer sympathetic words on social media – with some users suggesting they would like to see more mickey-taking.

“Take them to 8 out of 10 cats Do Countdown. We would love to hear more draft complaints,” one follower responded to Rachel.

“This is amazing! Some people complain about the stupidest things,” laughed another user.

Another person pondered why people behave so awfully on social media – and why they feel moved to complain so strongly.

They tweeted: “Makes me sad when I hear of perfectly nice people getting mean messages.

“Everyone I know is kind, polite and accepting of others. So where do these angry mean people come from?”

Despite the clip’s effective dismissal of some unfortunate viewpoints, it also tickled many more observers amused by the likes of Bake Off presenter Sandi being compared to a certain film megastar.

“She looks like Tom Cruise,” Sandi said in voiceover, dressed up and posing as if in Top Gun.

And reading out a complaint lodged against him, chef Jamie pretended to be irate as he spat out: “The man’s got sausage fingers!”
