Emmerdale character traumatised as secret long-lost son arrives in the village

His arrival sparks painful memories

Emmerdale writers have got a huge storyline in the pipeline for the New Year – and Charity Dingle is set to take centre stage as a tragedy from her past resurfaces.

This latest plot twist will turn Charity’s world upside down when she comes face to face with the child that she gave up after becoming the victim of sexual assault as a teenager.

One of Charity’s biggest storylines to date saw her discover that Debbie Dingle was the daughter that she gave up for adoption as a baby.

Long-term fans of the soap will remember that up until that point, Debbie has been raised by Paddy and Emily Kirk.

And it looks like history could be repeating itself when Charity meets the son she gave up for adoption, according to The Sun.

Charity gave up her baby after just a few days because he was a stark reminder of how he was conceived.

But it looks like she’s going to be forced to relive her rape ordeal all over again when she is unknowingly reunited with her son when he turns up in the village.

An Emmerdale source told The Sun: “Charity’s entire world will be rocked when her son is introduced in the New Year.

“Things have settled for her in terms of her personal life after three kids and as many husbands but this will change everything again.

“It is going to open up a load of old heartbreak for her and will be tough to watch for viewers — only someone as good as Emma could pull off the scenes.”

Most recently Charity has discovered that Debbie’s boyfriend, Tom Waterhouse has ulterior motives for getting close to the Dingle family – something that has caused huge tension between her and her daughter.

Emma Atkins, who plays Charity is no stranger to taking on huge storylines in Emmerdale –  her character has been part of numerous hard-hitting plots since she joined in 2ooo.

She’s renowned as the village bitch and has been behind plenty of moneymaking schemes, revenge plots and even found herself being framed for the murder of her ex husband, Chris Tate.
