Viewers irritated by recurring blunder during ITV’s The Widow

There was an embarrassing mistake about lead character Kate Beckinsale

Highly anticipated new drama The Widow hit screens last night, but viewers were rather disgruntled by a continuing mistake made about the show.

Viewers pointed out that the ITV announcer, who introduced the programme, repeatedly mispronounced protagonist Kate Beckinsale’s name.

Watchers of the show were convinced that the ITV narrator said “Kate Beckinsdale” instead or “Beckinsale”.

Irked viewers soon voiced their thoughts on the gaffe about the 45-year-old Hollywood actress.

One wrote: “@ITV Its @KateBeckinsale not Kate BeckinsDALE. #haveaword #TheWidow.”

A second complained: “Do wish that @ITV announcer would stop saying Kate Beckinsdale instead of Beckinsale #TheWidow,” while a third added: “@itv #TheWidow That’s twice the programme continuer has said Kate Beckinsdale #wtf #mispronunciation.”

Meanwhile, another viewer sarcastically commented: “Who the (beeping) hell is Kate ‘Beckinsdale’??? #TheWidow #itv #continuityannouncer.”

Meanwhile, Kate, who is known for her dry sense of humour, made her own quip about a promotional picture for the ITV drama yesterday.

Taking to Instagram, she shared a snap of her character Georgia next to a crashed aircraft and wrote: “#thewidow starts TONIGHT at 9pm on ITV in the UK. At no point in the series am I standing next to an exploded aircraft in a pristine shirt in case your reason for watching is to fathom how that is possible.”

The gritty ITV series follows Kate’s character as she travels to the Congo to investigate the death of her husband, Will, who she believes is still alive.
