Kacey Ainsworth reveals exciting news from set of Grantchester’s fifth series

She plays Cathy Keating in the ITV drama

Grantchester fans, we have some very good news for you, courtesy of actress Kacey Ainsworth.

The former EastEnders actress, 50, gave her Twitter followers a sneak peek from behind the scenes of the popular ITV drama – and revealed it’s up for a very prestigious award.

The series starring Robson Green as police inspector Geordie Keating is currently filming its fifth series in the small village in the south of Cambridgeshire.

The show, based on James Runcie’s set of books The Grantchester Mysteries, will be returning next year and Kacey teased her 17,000 Twitter fans with some sneak peek photos.

Alongside several shots from the set, Kacey wrote: “Twas a lovely day on set!”

Pictures include a relaxed shot of Robson and co-star Tom Brittney, who joined the cast last year as motorcycle-riding Reverend Will Davenport.

Another candid photo shows Kacey as Cathy Keating, standing beside her on-screen husband Geordie.

Viewers know that James Norton previously played brooding Reverend Sidney Chambers, but left the series last year after his character found love – passing on the dog collar to his worthy successor…

The fifth series, which was confirmed in July, will also see the return of closeted gay curate Leonard Finch, played by Al Weaver, and Sidney’s former housekeeper Mrs Chapman (Only Fools and Horse’s Tessa Peake-Jones).

Fans were quick to express their joy at Kacey’s photos, with one saying: “Looking forward to seeing the next series! Always brilliant stories, lots of nostalgia and terrific acting!”

Another said: “Oooooh this looks fab!! So looking forward to the next series.”

A third added: “We are all waiting for this, so excited. Awesome show, awesome cast.”

Kacey also shared the great news that Grantchester is on the nomination list for best drama at the National Television Awards, and stars Tom and Robson are both up for awards.

The actress, who played Little Mo in the BBC soap between 2000 and 2006, already has an NTA award for her moving portrayal of the domestic abuse victim.

She won the 2002 National Television Award for Most Popular Actress, and twice won the British Soap Award for Best Actress.

She joined the cast of Grantchester in 2014.
