Dermot O’Leary confirms he will return to host revamped series of The X Factor

There are plans for an All-Star and Celebrity special

Dermot O’Leary has confirmed he will be returning to host the new version of The X Factor.

The long-standing presenter said he will be back on screens when the show makes a comeback later this year.

The programme is expected to return with a celebrity and all-stars special, after boss Simon Cowell reportedly vowed to revamp the format.

Dermot has presented the talent competition since 2007, other than in 2015 when Olly Murs and Caroline Flack stepped in.

Metro.co.uk reported that Dermot confirmed he will be back in his hosting spot in 2019, which will be the fifteenth year of the show.

When asked if he will present the specials, Dermot told the publication: “Back this year, yes. That’s as much as I know.”

Discussing the plans for the show’s new shake-up, the 46-year-old presenter said he wasn’t surprised about the changes Simon has decided to make.

Dermot added that he still loves being at the helm of the ITV singing competition.

He continued: “Nothing surprises me, particularly because the show never rests on its laurels.

“There’s always an evolution every year. As someone that’s been there a very long time, it takes up a great part of my year, and I have a great fondness for it. I love it. You see so many changes down the years, you’re never really surprised.”

Simon’s X Factor masterplan was reported in April. It will apparently see famous faces take to the stage to compete and old X Factor alumni are also said to be returning.

A source told The Sun: “Simon knows that getting the right stars to enter is the key to its success.

“So to make that more appealing he’s decided to put a proper record deal with Syco on the table for the winner — with serious money behind it.

“It’s a proper competition and they want people who can really sing but who are big personalities too.”
