Anne Hegerty is considering retiring from The Chase

The star says her schedule is overwhelming

The Chase star Anne Hegerty is considering retiring.

The quiz show genius has admitted her schedule has “gone bonkers” since she left the I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! jungle and she is considering quitting her job as she finds it “overwhelming” at times.

She told the Daily Star said: “My schedule has gone bonkers and I find it overwhelming most of the time. Not a day goes by that I don’t think it would be cool to retire.”

However, the 60-year-old television quiz personality credits the ITV quiz show for turning her life around as she felt “very demoralised” before joining the show.

She added to the newspaper: “Before The Chase came into my life I was very demoralised. I was a proofreader working from home, but because I’m autistic I found it difficult to get organised and so I was losing work.”

Anne previously revealed she was ruled out of so many I’m A Celebrity Bushtucker Trials because the show’s psychologist “freaked out” that she might not be able to cope.

She told Metro.co.uk: “I’ve shown a more pathetic side [to myself]. I was a bit surprised that I kept being ruled out on medical grounds.

“What that was actually about was there is a psychologist attached to the programme. She got very freaked out by how upset I was by the first trial and basically she kept saying, ‘I don’t want Anne doing this again until she’s recovered.’

“She said to me before I did the second trial, ‘You are absolutely not to push yourself beyond your limits.’ But I said, ‘I don’t want to let people down.’ She was like, ‘Shut up, stop talking about not letting people down. If you push yourself beyond your limits I’m going to pull you out of the jungle and we will be having the next conversation in a hotel.'”

Anne recently revealed the inspiration for her character on The Chase, The Governess, is evil Professor Umbridge from the Harry Potter stories.

Fans of the young wizard will know that Dolores Umbridge was played by Imelda Staunton in the hit films and was an enemy of Harry.

However, in quotes printed in What’s On TV, Anne now admits that The Governess is more likeable than Dolores and probably more like Professor McGonagall, played by Maggie Smith.

The 60-year-old said: “I modelled The Governess on Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter, but people say I’m more Professor McGonagall, who’s more likeable.

“I didn’t set out to be liked; everyone’s supposed to be terrified of me.”

She went on to say:  “I love getting into character. I put on the suit, the belt, the shoes, the lipstick, and in the mirror ‘that look’ appears.”

In the chat, Anne also revealed that she’s still in contact with her I’m A Celeb pals via WhatsApp.
