Dancing On Ice star was in a wheelchair for four months after painful accident

This sounds awful!

Dancing on Ice star Donna Air is taking to the ice to impress the judges for the first time tonight.

But it could have been very different after a painful incident in 2011.

The former Byker Grove actress revealed she collided with a car and faced the possible prospect of not walking again, let alone skating.

Donna, 38, was left with broken bones in two legs after the accident.

She told The Mirror: “I was getting into my car picking [my daughter] Freya up from school and I got clipped on the leg by a car. I had such bad balance afterwards that I tripped and hurt the other leg.

“I had a broken left leg and lots of broken bones in my foot. I was in a wheelchair for four months.

“I hated it. Fortunately everything has healed fine. I was just very grateful that I wasn’t permanently in a wheelchair and that I don’t have a limp.”

It explains why she said she feared dying or getting a serious injury when she first agreed to do the show

The Geordie, who had her daughter with multi-millionaire Damian Aspinall 14 years ago, is partnering professional skater Mark Hanretty in the show.

Tonight she’s up against the likes of Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent, Love Island winner Kem Cetinay and Bucks Fizz’s Cheryl Baker.

But her preparation was rocked after a pair of skates was stolen from her car.

The boots were moulded to her feet and irreplaceable, with This Morning and Dancing on Ice host Phillip Schofield issuing a plea for their return as a result.

Donna had been training in the pair for months and they’re a perfect fit for her, but she’s had to make do with a different pair.

She started dating Kate Middleton’s younger brother James, 30, four years ago and accompanied him to sister Pippa’s wedding last year.
