Dancing On Ice: Ian ‘H’ Watkins confirmed as fifth contestant

He's hoping he doesn't get "badly injured"

Ian ‘H’ Watkins has confirmed he is taking part in Dancing on Ice next year.

The Steps singer has auditioned for the ice skating show twice before, so was delighted to have been accepted on a third occasion, and he has been “frantically YouTubing” footage of former winners James Jordan and Ray Quinn.

During Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, he said: “What am I doing? I feel like I’m giving birth to something.

“I haven’t been training [yet]. We’ve only accepted the job over the last couple of weeks.

“I’ve auditioned for it twice before so it’s third time lucky.

“I’ve frantically been YouTubing James Jordan and Ray Quinn.

“So if I end up being somewhere between James and Joe Pasquale I’ll be happy. Sorry, Joe.”

H is particularly excited about showing his three-year-old twin sons Macsen and Cybi Ryder-Watkins his ice skating skills.

He said: “The game has changed now because I have kids, so it’s a skill now I can learn and show my kids.

“It’s scary, and exciting and all of the above, and now there’s no turning back.”

The 43-year-old star is hoping he doesn’t get too badly injured during the intense training sessions, and admits he is “up for a challenge”.

He added: “I have insurance. I know I’m going to be put through my paces and that’s the name of the game. But I’m up for a challenge.

“It’s insane. They’re asking you to dance on this hard, white, slippery stuff in razor blades.”

On Wednesday, it was announced that ITV News presenter Lucrezia Millarini had joined the line-up.

The show’s official Instagram page announced the news, writing: “She’s used to delivering the news, but can she deliver the moves? Joining us on the ice, @lucreziaitv!”

On joining the show, Lucrezia said: “I’m super excited to be joining the line up for DOI! I can’t wait to get out there on the ice and start training.

“While the news agenda is already pretty busy these days, I know life is about to get a lot busier… with a few bruises along the way!”
