Dancing On Ice: Corrie actress Lisa George confirmed as sixth contestant

She's already had her first training session

Lisa George has been confirmed as the sixth celebrity contestant for next year’s series of Dancing On Ice.

The Coronation Street actress, who plays Beth Tinker, announced she was joining the line-up during Thursday’s Lorraine.

The star said she thought to herself if she doesn’t do the show now, she “won’t have a chance to do it again”.

She said on the show: “I did ice skate when I was a child for a couple of years until I was about nine.

“I was in a competition and I fell, I stuck my blades in the ice. The ice shot up like a shard and cut my chin open, and that was the end of my skating career. I’m 49 this year so I haven’t been on the ice for around 40 years.”

She added: “Yesterday (25.09.19) was my very first session. I really enjoyed it. I didn’t fall. I enjoyed it.  I was a bit scared, because the ice was really glossy and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s when I fell.’ I had this flashback.

“But I was OK, I didn’t fall over at all.”

Lisa joins Love Island star Maura Higgins, comedian Michael Barrymore, retired footballer Kevin Kilbane, ITV News presenter Lucrezia Millarini and Steps singer Ian ‘H’ Watkins.

On Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, Ian confirmed he was taking part in the show.

He said: “What am I doing? I feel like I’m giving birth to something. “I haven’t been training [yet]. We’ve only accepted the job over the last couple of weeks.

“I’ve auditioned for it twice before so it’s third time lucky. I’ve frantically been YouTubing James Jordan and Ray Quinn.

“So if I end up being somewhere between James and Joe Pasquale I’ll be happy. Sorry, Joe.”

The 43-year-old star is hoping he doesn’t get too badly injured during the intense training sessions, and admits he is “up for a challenge”.

He added: “I have insurance. I know I’m going to be put through my paces and that’s the name of the game. But I’m up for a challenge.

“It’s insane. They’re asking you to dance on this hard, white, slippery stuff in razor blades.”
